Older adults represent the fastest-growing population segment in Canada. In King Township, the 55+ population has been increasing significantly and is expected to continue at a rapid pace over the next decade.
To support the needs of an ageing population (and ageing in place) King Township is developing an Age-Friendly Action Plan in its commitment to become an Age-Friendly Community, where residents can maintain their independence as they age. This will ensure that programs and services in King Township are flexible and responsive to the needs of the aging population, and that older adults ages 55 plus have access to programs, along with facilities and infrastructure, they require to stay active, healthy and engaged in the local community.
King Township's Age-Friendly Action Plan is intended to align with the following eight dimensions of an Age-Friendly community as defined by the World Health Organization:
- Transportation
- Housing
- Social Participation
- Respect & Social Inclusion
- Civic Participation & Employment
- Communication & Information
- Community Support & Health Services
- Outdoor Spaces & Public Buildings
To help us get started on our Plan, the Township is asking residents to provide their feedback on aging gracefully in King Township by taking a quick online survey.
Take the 15-20 minute survey by July 25 at king.ca/seniors.
