Description of Project
King Christian Church was constructed in 1851 by the Children of Peace, a Quaker sect. Adapted as a Baptist church in 1931, the building became obsolete in 1978 and was relocated to the site of the King Heritage and Cultural Centre in 1982. The building was designated as a heritage property in 1992 (Township of King By-Law 92-123).
Identified as Canada’s oldest surviving railway station, the King Railway Station was constructed in 1852, and served several different railway companies over more than a century until it became obsolete in 1963. The building has since been relocated twice as part of previous conservation efforts, most recently to the site of the King Heritage and Cultural Centre in 1989, after which it underwent an extensive conservation program. The building was designated as a heritage property shortly after in 1990 (Township of King By-Law 90-80).
The Township of King is committed to the maintenance, protection and enhancement of the heritage resource, and is also dedicated towards facilitating ongoing and new compatible uses for the buildings.
The two buildings are located on the property of the King Heritage and Cultural Centre, at 2920 King Road, King City.

Completed Projects (2022)
Description of Project
- The watermains along Western Avenue from Church Street to Brownsville Court, Castlewood Avenue and Elmwood Avenue will be rehabilitated using a trenchless relining method.
- Relining watermains is less impactful to residents. Instead of digging up the entire road, the contractor will excavate pits to access the main at strategic locations. The relining process involves cleaning the inside of the watermain, inserting the liner and then curing the liner in place.
- The Township has decided to take this cost effective and less impactful approach of relining the existing pipes to extend the service life of these watermains and improve reliability and durability.
Completed - Q4 2022
Description of Project
- Due to aging infrastructure, the watermain, water services and fire hydrants, along Brownsville Court and the municipal walkway between Brownsville Court and Western Avenue are to be removed and replaced.
