The Noise by-law prohibits and regulates certain types of noise within the Township of King. The by-law includes both general restrictions on certain types of noise as well as time-based restrictions for certain activities.

Common noise complaints include:

  • Excessive amplification of music or sound
  • Construction activity after 7:00 PM in a Quiet Zone/9:00 PM in a Residential Area and/or on Sundays

Ontario Regulation 131/20 - in effect until October 7th, 2021.

This regulation that is made under the Municipal Act temporarily allows noise from construction activity related to the healthcare sector may take place at any time of the day or night. Construction related noise is also temporarily allowed to take place between the hours of 6:00am to 10:00pm.

 Under an amendment to the Municipal Act made on September 19th, 2020, municipal governments' noise by-laws cannot regulate noise related to the delivery of goods to the following destinations:

  • retail business establishments;
  • restaurants, including cafes and bars;
  • hotels and motels; and
  • goods distribution facilities.
