Winter-ready: King is Prepared for the Snow Removal Season

Winter parking restrictions in effect now through April 15

Township of King, Ont. — The Township has been busy gearing up for the snowy season ahead by replenishing stockpiles of sand and salt, and winterizing equipment. This is part of its winter maintenance program, which covers an area of over 330 km of roads – 270 km paved and 60 km gravel – with a network of both urban and rural roadways, sidewalks and ditches.

Like many municipalities across the province, winter parking restrictions are now in effect until April 15. This means that on-street parking between 2 a.m. and 6 a.m., and on-street parking that interferes with snow removal or parking on the sidewalk at any time are prohibited. These restrictions ensure that roads and sidewalks can be cleared and allow vehicles and pedestrians to safely pass following a snowfall. By-Law Enforcement Services will regularly patrol roads in King, and any parking infractions will be ticketed $100.

On-street permits are not applicable during winter maintenance activities. This includes during times of snow flurries, snow clearing and sanding/salting operations. If a permit has been obtained during winter maintenance activities the on-street permit becomes invalid, and any tickets issued will not be cancelled. Residents can pay a parking ticket online at parkking.ca. Tickets paid within 15 days of being issued will receive a 25% discount off the regular price of the ticket.

Plowing occurs in priority sequence – major roads first, followed by neighbourhood roads and cul-de-sacs last – to ensure that fire and emergency services are able to drive on the roads and respond to calls. Road clearing is typically completed within a 12-hour period after the snowfall is complete; however, can take longer during a Significant Weather Event, when a weather hazard (e.g., freezing rain, significant snowfall, strong winds, blowing snow, and reduced visibility) has the potential to pose a significant danger to roadway users.

The following are not part of the Township’s snow removal services:

  • Regional roads
  • Select park walkways and paths
  • Some new subdivision streets and sidewalks
  • Private walks, driveways and roads
  • Canada Post community mailbox locations
  • Townhouse complexes, plazas and other private areas
  • Windrows (the ridge of snow that is left behind after a snowplow or grader passes by)

Although crews are very conscious in following route schedules, sometimes streets may be missed. To report an oversight, call 905-833-5321 or email ServiceKING@king.ca.

To receive updates when a Significant Weather Event has been declared, follow the official corporate social media channels on X (formerly known as Twitter) and Facebook, or visit king.ca.

Residents will receive a mailout regarding the Township’s snow removal services, delivered to their mailbox in mid-November. For more information, visit king.ca/snowremoval.
