King Township will make a clean sweep of things as its street sweeping program starts on April 15, weather-permitting.

Sand and debris that accumulated over the winter are swept from King’s roads to prevent materials from clogging the storm sewers and to provide a safe and clean roadway for all users.

Work will start in Schomberg, followed by Nobleton and then King City.

Crews typically spend a week in each location but additional days may be needed if there is inclement weather which would impact the overall schedule.

To facilitate the sweeping in Schomberg, parking will be restricted on Main Street from April 15 to April 19 between the hours of 7 a.m. and 4 p.m.

After the villages are completed, sweeping will start in rural areas of the Township.

The Township asks all residents to minimize residential street parking, when possible, during this process to ensure best results.

Sweepers are designed to sweep only the normal build up of sand on the curb edge. Any sand that is swept into a pile by residents cannot be swept by the sweeper. Please leave sand in its normal state on the roadway.

If your road doesn’t look clean after a first pass by the sweeper, that’s because sometimes the sweeping process is a two-part process. The first sweeper that goes by is designed to pick up the bulk of the sand. Following that, another pass may be required to pick up the finer sand.

Please note that if you live in a new development /unassumed area, these roads are not swept by the Township's contractor as sweeping is the responsibility of the developer.

Street sweeping is expected to be completed by May 10, after which the re-gravelling of roads will start through to mid-June.
