King Township is driving forward with measures to reduce speed and increase safety on local roads.

The latest effort includes the installation of permanent asphalt speed tables in numerous strategic locations. Speed tables are traffic calming devices that raise the entire wheelbase of a vehicle to reduce its traffic speed. Speed tables are longer than speed humps and flat-topped.

Speed tables will be installed at the following locations this summer:

King City

  • 60 Banner Lane
  • 67 Banner Lane
  • 102 Banner Lane
  • 127 Banner Lane
  • 225 Banner Lane
  • 44 Elizabeth Grove
  • 109 Elizabeth Grove
  • 226 Elizabeth Grove

Nobleton

  • 12 Park Heights Trail
  • 20 Park Heights Trail
  • 30 Park Heights Trail
  • 71 Park Heights Trail
  • 78/80 Park Heights Trail
  • 226 Hill Farm Road
  • 218 Hill Farm Road

The installation of the speed tables is the outcome of King’s Traffic Calming Request Policy which was developed in 2020 with the goal of improving public safety for all road users by altering driver behaviour to encourage appropriate speeds on the Township’s roads.

King also recently reduced the speed limit on urban roads in the Township from 50 km/hr to 40 km/hr.
