Township of King, Ont.—The Township of King and the Kingbridge Centre have entered into an agreement as of Sept. 30 to create opportunities for collaboration that advaTree plantingnces the strategic initiatives of the Township in support of future economic growth with sustainability in mind.

The Kingbridge Centre is a world-class destination specializing in off-site meetings, learning, problem-solving and leadership development that provides a unique immersive environment to expand mindset and create collaboration, develop and deploy innovation and implement transformational change.

The MOU between Kingbridge and the Township focuses on economic development and, in particular, the demonstration of world-class solutions in the sectors of agriculture, food, water, renewable energy, forestry and climate-related solutions and opportunities.

This supports Kingbridge’s mission, which is to assist and enable individuals and institutions to solve their most pressing problems related to leadership, skills development, innovation, economic prosperity and growth.

According to the report to King Council in September 2022, the common interests and objectives of King and Kingbridge “provide a unique opportunity for the municipality to come together with a privately owned for-profit innovation hub for the purposes of sharing resources and collaborating in a partnership.”

The purpose of the MOU is to outline how this collaboration and partnership can work and benefit the strategic initiatives of both the Township and the Centre.

The agreement between Kingbridge and the Township includes a direction to:

  • Augment Economic Development
  • Drive Innovation and Applied Research
  • Ignite Stakeholder Engagement

Tree Canopy Partnership

A partnership focused on King’s tree canopy has already begun. On Sept. 21, a group of passionate volunteers joined forces at the Kingbridge Centre to celebrate National Tree Day by planting 1,000 trees in three hours. The event brought together volunteers from the Kingbridge team, the Township of King, Seneca, Climate Action King and the King Chamber of Commerce.

This season's tree planting initiative is one of many demonstrations happening at the Kingbridge Centre as the Innovation Hub and its portfolio companies continue to showcase sustainable solutions that are supported by new and novel technologies, processes and engagement format.

The team plans to continue supporting King's tree canopy goals by collaborating with the community and local businesses through various forest cover enhancement, tree planting, nursery building and knowledge-sharing events in the spring and fall of 2023.
