Start Date

The heat event will begin Saturday, Aug. 9 and is forecast to continue past Tuesday for portions of southern Ontario, including York Region.

Extreme heat is on the way with daytime highs of 30–33°C and humidex values reaching 35–40. Overnight lows will stay warm at 19–23°C. Cooler temps expected mid-next week.

Stay Safe in the Heat:

  • Drink water often—don’t wait until you’re thirsty
  • Check on older adults, those living alone, and vulnerable individuals
  • Watch for signs of heat exhaustion: headache, nausea, dizziness, dark urine, fatigue
  • Heat stroke is an emergency—call 911 if symptoms appear (red/hot skin, confusion, loss of consciousness)
  • Use fans, AC, or visit Cool Spaces, libraries, or shaded parks
  • Close blinds and open windows if cooler outside
  • Schedule outdoor activities during cooler hours
  • Wear light-coloured, loose-fitting clothes and a wide-brimmed hat
  • Never leave children or pets in parked vehicles.

Follow your local public health authority for updates.
