Learn about energy retrofit programs and grants

Township of King, Ont. (Oct. 9, 2025) King Township is partnering with the King Environmental Action Team (KEAT) to deliver Powering King, a first-ever Community Energy Expo focusing on energy conservation and retrofit solutions for both residents and businesses. The free, family-friendly event will take place on Saturday, Oct. 25 at the Zancor Centre, located at 1600 15th Sideroad in King City. Drop in any time between 11:00 a.m. and 4:00 p.m. Pre-registration is not required.

Learn from a variety of innovative companies and local sustainability leaders showcasing cutting-edge technologies and practical solutions designed to enhance energy efficiency and environmental stewardship—all while your kids enjoy climate focused coding activities! Explore exhibits and demonstrations by energy companies like Hydro One and Enbridge, solar, electric vehicle and heat pump companies, and get information on energy-efficient retrofit programs and grant opportunities.

Featured Speakers

Ontario’s Minister of Energy and Mines, the Hon. Stephen Lecce will give a keynote address focused on the Ontario Green Energy Grant and the future of Ontario Energy generation, followed by five featured speakers who bring a wealth of experience and insight into sustainable practices for business, homes and the community. The speaker lineup includes:

TRCA Climate Ready Homes Program: Provides insight into sustainable home initiatives and equips residents with personalized information about water and energy use, solid waste management, sustainable gardening, health and well-being, climate resilience and available rebate and incentive programs in their areas.

Jay Willmot: As president of Kinghaven Farms, Willmot has led the farm’s diversification into renewable energy, apiculture, egg farming, and woodlot management with a focus on sustainable land stewardship and solar energy.

Windfall Ecology Centre: A non-profit social enterprise advancing local environmental solutions through public policy and education, energy conservation, renewable energy, electric mobility, water protection and youth leadership development.

Chris Ballard: Former President & CEO, Passive House Canada, former Ontario Minister of Environment and Climate Change.

Enbridge: A commercial utility energy company advancing new low-carbon energy technologies and dedicated to reducing the carbon footprint of the energy they deliver.

About the King Environmental Action Team (K.E.A.T.)

The King Environmental Action Team is composed of residents and Township of King staff. K.E.A.T undertakes local community initiatives focused on creating environmental impact through effective stewardship and responsible environmental actions. Future initiatives will include tree plantings, community clean-ups, waste management/waste audits at community events, guided hikes, invasive species identification and removal, cycling initiatives and environmental workshop development.

This event coincides with Circular Economy Month, a new way of looking at how we make and use things, with a focus on minimizing waste and making the most of the earth’s resources. Join King Township throughout October at various environmental events, including a Community Electronic Recycling event, also being held on Saturday, Oct. 25 at the Zancor Centre. Other ways to participate in Circular Economy Month include bringing used batteries to a community battery drop off location, donating unwanted textiles, and participating in the Food Cycler pilot program (ends October 31).
