King Township raised $15,000 last year—the most ever by Township staff—to donate to the United Way Greater Toronto.

The annual campaign raised money through a payroll deduction program and social events throughout the year.

The money was presented to the United Way Greater Toronto at the King Township Municipal Centre on Tuesday, Jan. 17. United Way Greater Toronto’s coverage area includes King Township and the rest of York Region.

King and the United Way have enjoyed a long partnership, stretching back to 2006.

The money donated will help United Way fight local poverty.

According to the 2021 Canada census, around six per cent of King’s 28,000 residents live in a low-income home. Almost a quarter of those people are children.

United Way Greater Toronto works to reduce poverty by ensuring access to a broad range of programs and services for everyone, close to home.

King Township citizens have access to the hundreds of agencies supported by United Way Greater Toronto which connects with 2 million people through 650 different programs.

These agencies tackle issues like housing, job security, food insecurity and mental health.
