King Township is putting the spotlight on sustainability by celebrating Circular Economy Month—a time to rethink how we use, reuse and recycle everyday resources. Looking toward a greener future, residents are invited to discover creative ways to make a positive impact on the environment through local events and hands-on initiatives.
King Township is joining hundreds of communities, businesses, schools and individuals from across the country in supporting Circular Economy Month. As we work toward a livable climate, an affordable life and a healthier environment, we’re committed to protecting the planet and prioritizing people. This month, we invite all residents to use their voices in support of an economy that reflects the core values of Canadians: sustainability, community and responsible consumption.
Throughout Circular Economy Month, King Township will highlight the importance of waste reduction, green infrastructure and sustainable living through various initiatives and activities.
Week 1: Introduction to the Circular Economy
Get started by choosing greener modes of transportation. Visit the PowerKing event on Saturday, Oct. 5 and discover how reducing greenhouse gas emissions and embracing active transport can lead to a healthier lifestyle and a greener planet.
Week 2: Environmental benefits
This week will focus on how adopting a circular economy can reduce greenhouse gas emissions, promote renewable energy, and create new green jobs. Residents are encouraged to explore sustainable power alternatives and share their sustainable actions online. King Township has set a corporate goal of zero emissions by 2050 through the King Community Climate Change Action Plan.
Week 3: Social and economic benefits
Learn how the circular economy benefits communities by creating jobs, supporting local businesses and fostering social well-being. King Township’s Enrich King program offers funding for local businesses looking to implement sustainable projects.
Week 4: Waste Reduction Week
The month will finish with a spotlight on waste reduction. King Township will promote the fall Foodcycler Pilot Program, the Recycle Coach app and various textile and battery diversion programs.
