Upcoming environmental and sustainability events and programs
Township of King, Ont. (April 22, 2026) —Earth Day is a reminder that caring for our environment starts close to home. After a long winter, King Township is encouraging residents to help clean up their yards and public spaces to keep the community picturesque and ready for the peak park and patio season.
With 28 parks and more than 220 acres of parkland across the Township, keeping King clean and green is a shared responsibility. Simple actions like tidying yards, disposing of waste properly, picking up litter and cleaning up after pets help protect neighbourhoods and community spaces.
Keep yards clean and green
The Clean Yards Bylaw #2016-68 sets minimum standards for property upkeep, including litter, waste, grass and weeds, to keep properties safe and visually appealing. Property maintenance concerns can be reported to by-law@king.ca. More information is available at king.ca/CleanYards.
Yard waste collection aligns with recycling and green bin (compost) days. Accepted items include leaves, branches, plant material and mulch. Grass clippings are not accepted and can be left on lawns to return nutrients to the soil. View the Waste Collection Schedule at king.ca/waste.
Residents can now take part in the Green Yards program by purchasing discounted rain barrels, backyard composters and native wildflower kits that support pollinators. Learn more at king.ca/GreenYards.
Help keep parks and streets clean
Keep litter out of parks and streets, clean up after pets and report vandalism or by-law issues.
Community Clean Up: Litter belongs in the bin, not in parks. Residents are encouraged to join a community clean‑up on Saturday, Apr. 25 from 10:30 a.m. to noon at either Tasca Park or the Dufferin Marsh. Those who prefer to clean up their own neighbourhood can gather a team and register an area as part of King’s annual Community Clean Up event. Clean‑up kits are available for pickup until April 25. For more information, visit king.ca/CommunityCleanUp.
Stoop and scoop: Pet owners are responsible for keeping pets leashed and cleaning up after them in public spaces, as required under King Township’s Animal Control Bylaw #2016-85. Failure to pick up after a pet can result in a $200 fine, and Vaughan Animal Services officers regularly patrol parks, roads and sidewalks for animal control issues, including stoop and scoop offences.
Littering: Litter and graffiti significantly degrade the quality of parks and community spaces and is prohibited. Parkgoers are reminded to throw trash into the designated bins and report vandalism to by-law@king.ca. If you witness any suspicious or illegal activity contact York Regional Police. If you are reporting suspicious activity and it is a non-emergency, call 1(866) 876-5423. If it is an emergency call 9-1-1.
