Fireworks regulations

As the long weekend approaches, residents are reminded that fireworks are only permitted on Canada Day between dusk and 11 p.m. as per bylaw By-law 2022-032. The bylaw balances the safe use of fireworks with the protection of King’s rural areas, including safeguarding livestock from harm resulting from fireworks.

  • Fireworks cannot be set off on any public land, including parks, parking lots or roads.
  • Fireworks must be set off at least 8 metres from any structure and 3 metres from property lines, public walkways or roadways.
  • Fireworks cannot be set off within 1,000 metres of livestock, an equestrian facility or operation, woodlands/forested areas, tall grass prairie habitat, wetlands and nesting birds, without the written consent of the property owner.

King Township Bylaw Services will be patrolling over the Canada Day holiday to ensure community safety and prevent the use of private fireworks on public property. Officers will also educate the public on King’s fireworks bylaw which regulates how, when and where private fireworks can be set off.

Bylaw Services will have officers stationed at strategic locations and officers on general patrol addressing any prohibited activities in parks or on roads.

How to report a concern
