Frequently Asked Questions

• Who is responsible for the general clean-up of debris or glass in parks, open spaces or trails?

  To report unkempt areas or coordinate clean-up of parks, open spaces or woodlots, contact the Parks Division at 905-833-5321 or email parksandforestry@king.ca

• Who can I call about park-related matters after 4:30pm?

  Contact the Township of King at 905-833-5321 and your call will be transferred to the appropriate staff member

• Who should I contact if the grass on the boulevard and/or in the parks is high and needs cutting?

  The Parks Division maintains a weekly cutting rotation on Township owned boulevards and parks. For a missed location, call 905-833-5321 or email parksandforestry@king.ca. Un-assumed subdivisions are the responsibility of the developer. Boulevards or Regional Roadways are maintained by York Region. Call 1-877-464-9675 or visit york.ca

• Vandalism, Damage and/or Loitering

  • The Parks Division has a program to check playgrounds quarterly. Call 905-833-5321 or email parksandforestry@king.ca for playground concerns

• Are motorized vehicles allowed in parks?

  As per section 6.2 “Motorized Recreational Vehicles” of King Township’s Parks, Facilities and Loitering By-Law #2016-103, the use of motorized vehicles is prohibited in Township parks and trails. This includes (but is not limited to) pocket bikes, dirt bikes, mini-bikes, ATVs and motorized scooters. Non-compliance can lead to fines up to $5,000 and vehicles may be impounded. Keeping motorized vehicles out of parks helps keep residents safe.

  Skip bringing the motorized vehicle to the park and instead use designated parking areas and proceed on foot from there. Walking or cycling is a great way to enjoy the beauty of our parks while staying healthy and appreciating nature.  

  Report violations: if you see someone using a motorized vehicle in the park, email by-law@king.ca. If you see motorized vehicles on the sidewalks or roadways, call York Regional Police non-emergency line 1-866-876-5423.  

• Where would I access information about outdoor splash pads or sports fields?

  • Splash pads are open from beginning of June until mid-September (weather permitting). The hours of operation are Monday-Sunday 9:00am-9:00pm.
  • Tennis courts and pickleball court are open from mid-May until October 31st (weather permitting).
  • Baseball diamonds and soccer fields are open from mid-May until September 31st (weather permitting).

• What should I do if I have a permit for a sports field or tennis court and someone else is using it?

  Always bring your permit with you to the park to show proof of booking to members of the public that may be using it. Contact the Township of King at 905-833-5321 or email facililitybooking@king.ca for additional assistance

Off-Leash Dog Parks

• Tasca Park renovations

  Based on feedback from the recent “Wood Chips or Grass?” dog park survey, King Township is transitioning the Tasca Park Dog Park from wood mulch to grass surfacing this summer. The project will be completed in two phases to keep access available where possible, though temporary closures will be required during construction. To help maintain use, large and small dog enclosures will be combined during parts of the work.

  • Phase 1 – Large Enclosure: Work includes removing the existing wood mulch, installing grass surfacing, and planting new trees to provide added shade. Construction is expected to wrap up in late spring, with reopening planned for early summer.
  • Phase 2 – Small Enclosure: This phase will convert the surface from wood mulch to grass. Completion is anticipated by mid‑summer, with reopening expected in early fall.

  As part of King Township's sustainability efforts, removed wood mulch will be reused on site to help establish a new reclaimed naturalized forest area near the dog park.
