Inclusion Services

• Free for residents and non-residents.
• Access to registration for one-to-one support required for participation in recreation and aquatic programs and camps.
• Annual completion and renewal of the Participant Intake Form.
• Regular emails highlighting upcoming events and programs offered by King Township.
• Helps the Inclusion Services team track participation and improve services.

Extra support may be required  if: 

• Extra support is required at school 

• Additional support or assistance is required at home for basic personal care needs such as eating, dressing or toileting 

• An exceptionality exists that affects mobility, communication, comprehension, social interaction and/or behaviour 

• The child is currently diagnosed with a disability 

• The participant requires support participating independently in a group setting 

• There are behaviours that need to be managed that could affect the safety of the participant or other participants, such as biting, pinching, slapping, or running. 

1. Explore Programs: Browse the Recreation Guide to find a program or camp that best suits the participant's interests and abilities. 

2. Register for Inclusion Support: Go to townshipofking.perfectmind.com to register for the 1:1 inclusion support session that corresponds to your chosen program or camp. During the registration for inclusion support, you will be prompted to complete a questionnaire. Be sure to include the program name and course code for your selected program or camp. 

3. Complete the Intake Form: Fill out the Inclusion Participant Intake Form in full (digital form linked in the questionnaire). Once submitted, the Inclusion Team will receive your information. 

4. Confirmation & Next Steps: After support is confirmed by the Township's Lead Hand - Aquatics and Inclusion Services, you will be contacted with the next steps. At that point, you can register for your chosen program or camp. 

Inclusion support staff for children with disabilities is provided free of charge to Township of King residents, pending availability.  

Parents/guardians must complete the Participant Intake Form.  This form needs to be completed  each year to assist the team in preparing your child’s  accommodations based on their interests and ability. The Township of King attempts to accommodate requests for additional support, however, due to the number of requests or level of care, support cannot be guaranteed. Families are welcome to consider alternate options of support with a family member or external worker to attend the program.  

Inclusion support is offered by a specially trained inclusion facilitator who will work one-to-one with your child for the duration of the program. Staff can assist participants by providing modifications in areas such as program instruction, movement, equipment, communication, and promoting socialization with others.  

Families are welcome to bring their own external support person, at no charge, to any recreation program or camp to support a participant of all abilities. 

Registered recreation programs, camps and swim lessons 

External support persons must: 

• Be 16 years or older, 

• Be able to support the participant integrating into the activity, 

• Completing a Vulnerable Sector Check (VSC), and 

• Complete an external support person contract. 

To request to bring your own external support person in a registered program or camp, please contact inclusion@king.ca.

• King Township provides adaptive equipment for use during programming, free of charge to registered participants. Examples include:A Hippocampe-All-terrain Wheelchair is available for use on the trails at Cold Creek Conservation Area.  

• *Note: The Hoppocampe-All-terrain Wheelchair must be booked for use prior to your visit. To book,  email coldcreek@king.ca  

• Rental equipment for Para Ice Hockey (Sledges/sticks)   

• Wheelchair Basketball coming soon!

In partnership with Children’s Treatment Network and Seneca College Therapeutic Recreation, join us for some March Break fun at the Township of King's Zancor Centre!

• March Break Fun with Seneca College Students - 9:30 to 11:00 a.m.
• Sensory Swim - 11:15 a.m. to 12:45 p.m. (DROP-IN)

Registration is highly recommended; however, drop-ins are welcome.

If families wish to seek more avenues to receive funding for 1:1 support, they are welcome to contact York Region's Access York at 1-877-464-9675 (Press 5 for Summer Camp and 6 for PLAY) to be approved for funding.
