Introducing King Township’s Inclusion Membership – a free membership that makes it easier for families and individuals with a disability to access the one-on-one support they need. Available starting January 5, this membership is designed to streamline the process for parents and guardians of children who require inclusion support to participate in Township recreation programs. This includes aquatic programs, camps, sports, and other recreational activities. The membership is now required for signing up for one-to-one support in a Township program.
There are two ways to register for the membership:
- Online: Sign into your Xplor account and visit “Memberships” where you’ll select the Inclusion Membership to register. If you require assistance creating an account, call ServiceKING at 905-833-5321 or email serviceking@king.ca.
- In-person: Visit a King Township recreation facility where a staff member will help you with the registration process.
Membership benefits:
- Free for residents and non-residents.
- Access to registration for one-to-one support required for participation in recreation and aquatic programs and camps.
- Annual completion and renewal of the Participant Intake Form.
- Regular emails highlighting upcoming events and programs offered by King Township.
- Helps the Inclusion Services team track participation and improve services.
How the new process for requesting inclusion support works:
- Explore programs: Browse the Recreation Guide to find a program or camp that best suits the participant's interests and abilities.
- Register for inclusion support: Visit townshipofking.perfectmind.com to register for the 1:1 inclusion support session that corresponds to your chosen program or camp. During registration, you must complete a questionnaire, this step is required for every program and camp you are registering for. Make sure to include the program name and course code for your selected program or camp.
- Complete the Participant Intake Form: Upon registration and membership renewal, you will be required to complete the Inclusion Participant Intake Form. You will be required to complete this form once a year, which can be done during your Inclusion Membership renewal.
- Confirmation and next steps: Once support is confirmed by the Township’s Lead Hand – Aquatics and Inclusion Services, you will be contacted regarding next steps and you can register for your chosen program or camp.
How do I know if my child requires additional support in a recreation program or camp?
Extra support may be required if:
- Extra support is required at school.
- Additional support or assistance is required at home for basic personal care needs such as eating, dressing or toileting.
- An exceptionality exists that affects mobility, communication, comprehension, social interaction and/or behaviour.
- The child is currently diagnosed with a disability.
- The participant requires support participating independently in a group setting.
- There are behaviours that need to be managed that could affect the safety of the participant or other participants, such as biting, pinching, slapping, or running.
