Township of King honours local volunteers at Volunteer Appreciation Awards

The Township of King Council honoured local volunteers for their many valuable contributions to the community at the annual Volunteer Appreciation Awards event on April 18, 2023.

Mayor Steve Pellegrini spoke about the importance of volunteering to the community before presenting each recipient with their award. The event was held at the King Township Municipal Centre and was also attended by family and friends of the recipients.

Citizen of the Year Award

The Citizen of the Year Award is given to a citizen of the Township of King to recognize and honor outstanding contributions to the King. This year’s recipient was Angelo Santorelli.

Santorelli was recognized for his special dedication, generosity and the time given to his community. He is a long-time resident, business owner and president of Trisan Construction and has been a member of the King Chamber of Commerce for more than a decade. He has served as Chamber president since 2019. He has also donated his time and expertise to the Township’s Sustainability Advisory Committee.

Special Recognition Award

This award is given to one or more citizens or an organization for a special contribution made to the community. This year’s recipients are: Brenda See; Joe D’Ercole; Sharlene Maietta; Beverly Berger; Bob Belcher; Fiona Macrae; Llian Macrae; Geraldine Alletson; Gillian Watt; Gino DiFebo; Susan DiFebo; Ian Hilley; King For Refugees; Linda Pabst; Mary Muter; Meline Beach; Michele McNally; Susan Hayhoe.

Non-Resident Award

This award is given to one or more individuals for a special contribution made to the community who reside outside of King. This year’s recipients are: Janice Gervais; Kathleen Rodgers; Mark Pavilons.

Senior Citizen Award of Merit

This award is given to a senior citizen of King to recognize and honour special contributions to the senior population of King. This year’s recipient is Robert Phillips.

Lifetime Achievement Award

This award recognizes outstanding citizenship within the community, with many years of dedicated service and devotion to the residents of King. This year’s recipients are: Louise Di Iorio; Wendy Sue Bishop.

Youth Award of Merit

This award is given to a younger citizen of King to recognize special contributions to the Township. This year’s recipients are: Julia Tabrizi; Noa Brook; Paul O’Neill; Zoran Ouslis.
