King Township recognizes Building Safety Month and the professionals who help keep King’s homes and buildings safe
Township of King, Ont. (May 14, 2026) — May is Building Safety Month – an opportunity to recognize the essential role building professionals play in protecting public safety and their tireless efforts to shape a stronger, safer community in King Township.
This year’s theme “Celebrating a Legacy of Building Safety,” is especially meaningful as the Ontario Building Officials Association (OBOA) marks 70 years of strengthening building inspection standards and safe construction practices across Ontario.
King Township’s Building division is a team of dedicated and professional Building Officials comprised of front-line staff, plans examiners, and building inspectors who work with homeowners, builders, businesses, and design professionals to make sure every project meets Ontario Building Code standards — from new homes to septic systems, renovations, and even demolitions.
What the Township’s building professionals do behind the scenes
Building safety is proactive, not reactive, and much of the work that keeps people safe happens long before anyone moves into a building. From single family homes to complex developments, building safety is foundational to public trust and community well-being. Every day, King Township’s Building Officials work behind the scenes to prevent risks before they become problems.
Their work includes:
- reviewing building permit applications and complex construction drawings before a shovel ever hits the ground
- identifying potential code issues early
- helping ensure critical life‑safety features—such as fire separations, exits and safety systems—are properly designed
- interpreting and applying evolving building codes
- conducting routine inspections throughout construction
- providing guidance to homeowners, builders and designers throughout the construction process
This way, homes are built to last, and most people never have to think about the risks that were prevented because safety was built in from the start.
In 2025, the Building team completed 3,439 inspections—an increase of six per cent from 2024—helping residents and builders navigate the permit and inspection process. Annual service performance reporting shows a 75 per cent pass rate on building inspections, demonstrating a strong compliance with provincial standards and clear communication, timely site visits and practical guidance to help projects move forward safely.

Permits aren’t red tape — they’re a safety check
Many common projects, including decks, finished basements, sheds, secondary suites and plumbing or septic changes, and wood stoves or fireplaces, require a permit to help ensure work meets safety standards and protects homeowners.
