Riding off-road vehicles on roads and parks is prohibited

Residents are reminded that the use of off-road vehicles on any roads and parks within King Township, as well as throughout York Region, is strictly prohibited. This includes pocket bikes, dirt bikes, mini-bikes, ATVs and motorized scooters, which are not allowed on public roadways or sidewalks.

Off-road vehicles must be registered, plated, and insured in accordance with legislative guidelines. Riders must wear helmets, and children must be supervised by an adult.

Off-road vehicles are only permitted on private property with the landowner's permission. It is important for riders to transport their off-road vehicles to these properties. Illegal riding poses a danger to neighbors, particularly to children playing on sidewalks or riding bicycles.

Failure to comply with the law regarding off-road vehicles can result in charges. Bylaw officers may provide education to riders or property owners following a complaint. The vehicle may be impounded, and fines can reach up to $5,000. Parents of unsupervised children riding these vehicles can also face charges.
