Weeklong celebration includes free sapling giveaway, forest walk, and pollination workshop

Township of King, Ont. (Sept. 15, 2025) King Township is in for a tree-t this September during National Forest Week happening September 21 to 27. This Canada-wide celebration serves as a time to reflect on the crucial role trees play in the local ecosystem and how fortunate King Township is home to 8,000 hectares of forested land, nearly a quarter of the total geographic area.

The Canadian Institute of Forestry’s theme for National Forest Week 2025 is “Roots of resilience: from seed to canopy.” This theme highlights forests’ ability to help create sustainable communities and aligns with the Township’s environmental vision and mission. Since 2022, King has planted over 30,000 native trees, shrubs, and wildflowers in parks and open spaces through community tree planting initiatives. King Township continues to be a leader in the awareness, protection, enhancement and growth of trees and the overall tree canopy.

The environmental team has planned a series of nature-focused events to celebrate National Forest Week, including a sapling giveaway, a forest walk followed by a tree printing activity and an interactive educational workshop on pollination for little ones.

Stop by the King Township Municipal Centre, Zancor Centre or Trisan Centre during National Forest Week for a free tree sapling to plant at home and help grow King’s tree canopy. Pick up your sapling from the front desk during operating hours while supplies last; one sapling per person.
