King Township has ended the Significant Weather Event designation put in place in response to the extreme winter conditions that began February 2, 2022.

Roads and sidewalks were cleared by the evening of Feb. 3. Additional snow late Thursday evening required crews to return Friday to redo and touch up all roads and sidewalks.

Municipalities may declare a Significant Weather Event when a weather hazard, either forecasted or occurring, has the potential to pose a significant danger to users of the roadways in that municipality. Weather hazards include freezing rain, significant snowfall, strong winds, blowing snow, and reduced visibility.

This declaration is permitted under the Minimum Maintenance Standards for Municipal Highways under Ontario Regulation 239/02.

The Township made the decision to lift the Significant Weather Event status after reviewing weather reports along with general in-field observations of King’s road and sidewalk network.

King Township would like to thank all residents, businesses, and visitors for their understanding and co-operation during this event. Please continue to use caution when travelling the network of roads and sidewalks, and please drive according to weather conditions.
