King Township, in partnership with Vaughan Animal Services, is dedicated to creating a safe community for pets and their owners – which includes offering microchipping services and rabies vaccines.

Book an appointment to bring your pets to a microchip and rabies clinic at the Vaughan Animal Shelter (located at 70 Tigi Crt., Unit 47) on Sunday, Oct. 22 from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Call the City of Vaughan at 905-832-2281 to schedule your timeslot. Walk-ins will not be accepted.

The following services will be available at the clinic:

  • Microchip implant and registration ($25 per pet plus tax)
  • A rabies vaccine, certificate and tag ($20 per pet plus tax)

Having your pet microchipped helps to easily identify and safely reunite you with them if they are lost. Getting your pet vaccinated against rabies helps with medical follow-ups for people or animals potentially exposed to infected animals and supplements and manages the costs of sheltering animals and providing education, outreach and compliance measures.

As a reminder, all City of Vaughan facilities are cashless. Everyone is welcome to attend the clinics and you do not need to live in Vaughan to book an appointment.

You can also get or renew a pet licence online at king.ca/petlicence.

Cats and dogs within the Township of King are required to be registered and pay an annual licence fee each calendar year. The Township issues "lifetime tags" which will be valid for the life of your pet, meaning they can keep the same tag number, but their information must still be renewed each year. The fee for each dog or cat licence is $25.

Vaughan Animal Services will also host an Adopt-a-thon on Sunday, Nov. 12 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the Vaughan Animal Shelter. All interested adopters must have government photo ID and an animal carrier to safely transport their adopted animal.

The fees to adopt an animal are:

  • Cats one year and older - $100
  • Cats under one year - $150
  • Dogs - $200

Payment can be made by credit card, debit or cheque. Anyone interested in adopting a dog must have a meet and greet scheduled with all household members and submit an adoption application. The animals available for adoption can be seen on Vaughan Animal Services’ website.
