Apply to serve on the 2026-2030 Joint Compliance Audit Committee

York Region’s lower tier municipalities are recruiting qualified professionals to serve on the 2026–2030 Joint Compliance Audit Committee (JCAC), an independent body established under the Municipal Elections Act, 1996.

The JCAC is responsible for reviewing requests for compliance audits related to municipal election campaign finances arising from the 2026 Municipal Election and any by-elections during the 2026–2030 term of Council.

Applications must be submitted by Tuesday, Mar. 31 at 4 p.m.

Responsibilities include:

  • Considering whether an application for a compliance audit filed by an eligible voter should be granted or rejected;
  • Appointing an auditor, if the application is granted;
  • Receiving and considering the auditor's report and deciding whether legal proceedings should be commenced;
  • Receiving and reviewing the report of the Township Clerk on any apparent over-contributions by contributors to candidates' and third party advertisers' campaigns.

Applicants with a background in accounting, auditing, law, election administration, and/or public administration are preferred.

Applicants should:

  • Have an understanding of municipal campaign finance provisions;
  • Demonstrate analytical decision-making and excellent communication skills;
  • Have experience working with or as a member of government boards, task forces and/or quasi-judicial bodies; and
  • Have flexibility to attend meetings during daytime and evening hours.

Applicants cannot:

  • Be candidates in the 2026 Municipal Election or committed to providing professional advice to anyone running for office in a York Region municipality.
  • Be Members of Council or current employees of any of the participating municipalities (King Township, Aurora, East Gwillimbury, Georgina, Markham, Newmarket, Richmond Hill, Vaughan or Stouffville).

The fouryear term begins in 2026 and includes a one-time retainer of $450 and $400 (including mileage) for attendance at a mandatory training session. Committee members will receive a per diem of $400 plus mileage (at current CRA rates) for any official committee meetings they are required to attend. Applicants must have flexibility to attend meetings (daytime and evening).
