Extreme Weather Alert issued for King—Arena Buildings Available as Warming Centres

Environment Canada has issued an extreme weather alert for King Township and the surrounding areas for Friday.

Wind chills are expected to reach - 35 to – 40 C Friday morning and to reach - 35 to - 40 C Friday night into Saturday morning.

Risks are greater for young children, older adults, people with chronic illnesses, people working or exercising outdoors, and those without proper shelter. Dress warmly and in layers that can be removed, including a wind-resistant outer layer.

Frostbite can occur within minutes on exposed skin, especially with wind chill.

King’s arena buildings are available for people to warm up during hours of operations. Locations include:

King City Lions Arena
25 Doctors Lane
King City
Open: Monday to Friday, 8 a.m. to 10 p.m.; Saturday, 8 a.m. to 9 p.m.; Sunday, 6:30 a.m. to 10 p.m.

Trisan Centre
25 Dillane Dr.
Schomberg
Open: Monday to Thursday, 6 a.m. to 9 p.m.; Friday, 6 a.m. to 7 p.m.; Saturday and Sunday, 8 a.m. to 4 p.m.

Dr. William Laceby Nobleton Arena and Community Centre
15 Old King Rd.
Nobleton
Open: Monday to Friday, 8 a.m. to 10 p.m.; Saturday, 8 a.m. to 9 p.m.; Sunday, 6:30 a.m. to 10 p.m.
