Kick-off National Youth Week with the Mayor’s Youth Action Team by exploring volunteer and job opportunities or trying new activities

Township of King, Ont. (April 20, 2026) — Are you between the ages of 13 and 18? Looking for volunteer hours for your high school requirement or trying to land your first part-time job? Want to explore a new activity outside of school? Join King Township and the Mayor’s Youth Action Team (MYAT) at the Youth Opportunity Fair on Friday, May 1 from 4 to 6:30 p.m. at Zancor Centre, located at 1600 15th Sideroad, King City.

The event serves as the official launch for National Youth Week (May 1 to 7) with plenty of opportunities to get involved, have fun and even meet new friends. Enjoy free food and refreshments, drop-in sports, door prizes and meet with local businesses and community groups specializing in a range of interests, from arts, drama, sports, education, gardening, job skills and cosmetics. Speak one-on-one with King Township staff about environmental initiatives, recreation and aquatic programs and jobs opportunities, and meet with representatives from York Regional Police and York Region Educational Services.

Throughout the event, free drop-in recreational programming will be available to ages 13 to 18. Youth are asked to check in with customer service prior to participating in a program; pre-registration is not required.

The programming schedule includes:

  • Parents & Child Open Turf from 9 to 11 a.m.
  • Open Turf from 12:30 to 3:30 p.m.
  • Soccer Scrimmage Sessions from 4 to 6 p.m.
  • Basketball from 4:30 to 6:30 p.m.

Timeless Tales sixth annual all-ages writing contest

Are you an aspiring writer? Get ready for Arts Society King and the King Heritage & Cultural Centre’s sixth annual Timeless Tales all-ages writing contest. The newly re-opened 175-year-old King Christian Church, together with treasures from King Heritage & Cultural Centre’s artifact and archival collection serve as inspiration for this year’s contest with storytellers asked to explore the theme The Cradle, The Altar, and The Grave – milestones that shape life.

Submissions are welcome in the following age categories:

  • Grades one to four (illustrations welcome)
  • Grades five to eight
  • Grades nine to 12
  • Ages 18 plus

Winners in each category will receive $100, and all submissions will be considered for publication in Arts Society King’s first ever digital anthology. No entry fee required. Learn more and submit your entry by May 31 at artssocietyking.ca.

Mayor's Celebration of Youth Arts 2026, presented by Arts Society King

View an impressive art display—featuring paintings, drawings, sculptures and mixed media pieces—created by students from Country Day School, King City Secondary School and Villanova College. The exhibition runs until May 8 at the King Township Municipal Centre and can be viewed Monday through Friday from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Vote for your favourite piece for the People’s Choice Award and help celebrate youth artists in King.

About the Mayor’s Youth Action Team

MYAT was formed in 2015 and is a voluntary group of young individuals between the ages of 13 to 18 (Grade 9 to 12) whose goal is to support and recognize their fellow youth and ensure that young voices are heard throughout the Township of King.
