Learn about volunteer and job opportunities, win prizes, and meet two Canadian Olympic athletes

Township of King, Ont. Are you a young individual aged 13 to 17? Are you seeking volunteer hours for your high school requirement, looking for your first part-time job, deciding on a college or university, or simply want to find a fun, new activity to do outside of school?

Attend the Youth Opportunity Fair, hosted by the Mayor's Youth Action Team (MYAT) at the King Township Municipal Centre on Thursday, Feb. 8. Drop-in to this free event any time between 2:30 p.m. to 6 p.m. for the chance to connect with local businesses, representatives from select colleges and universities, and community organizations. Pre-registration is not required, and parents are welcome to join.

Event Highlights

Find a volunteer placement or job: Learn job-hunting tips from the team at Job Skills; visit the King Township Public Library booth to find out how you can volunteer in the Make-it Lab or be a Reading or Math Buddy; and, stop by the King Township table to discover how to secure a 4-month summer student placement with our by-law or parks departments, or work as a summer camp counsellor, lifeguard or swim instructor.    

Get information about post-secondary school: chat one-on-one with representatives from Brock University, the University of Guelph and Seneca College to learn about programs that suit your interests and skills, and how to apply.

Meet special guests Daniel Gaysinsky and Melissa Bratic: learn about the various martial arts programming available to teens in King from Canadian karate Olympians and Pan Am Champions, Daniel Gaysinsky and Melissa Bratic.

Win exciting prizes: Enter for a chance to win prizes, including gift cards for your favorite eats and a one-hour tutoring session for any subject/grade, donated by The Blue Marble Academy.

Drop-in basketball games: Basketball players, bring your active wear for a game of pick-up basketball in the gym. Times: 2:30-4:15 p.m. (ages 13-16) and 7:30-9 p.m. (ages 16+).

About the Mayor's Youth Action Team (MYAT)

MYAT was formed in 2015 and is a voluntary group of young individuals between the ages of 13 to 18 (Grade 9 to 12) whose goal is to support and recognize their fellow youth and ensure that young voices are heard throughout the Township of King.
