2026 Municipal and School Board Elections Notice of Nominations

Notice is hereby given to the municipal electors of the Township of King that nominations for the Municipal and School Board Election, to be held on October 26, 2026, may be filed for the following offices and in the following manner:

Offices to be Elected

  • Mayor – One (1) position to be elected at large (also serves as Regional Councillor)
  • Councillor – Six (6) positions, one for each of the six (6) wards
  • York Region District School Board – One (1) Trustee
  • York Catholic District School Board - One (1) Trustee (nominations to be filed with the Town of Aurora)
  • Counseil scolaire Viamonde - One (1) Trustee (nominations to be filed with the City of Vaughan) 
  • Counseil scolaire catholique MonAvenir - One (1) Trustee (nominations to be filed with the City of Vaughan)

The term of office will be November 15, 2026, to November 14, 2030.

Nomination Procedures

Nominations for offices to be filed with the Township of King must be filed in person or by an appointed agent, by appointment only, during regular business hours between May 1, 2026 and August 20, 2026, and between 9:00 a.m. and 2:00 p.m. on August 21, 2026 (Nomination Day).

When filing your nomination, the following must be provided:

  • Nomination Paper – Form 1
  • Endorsement of Nomination – Form 2
         - Candidates for Mayor and Councillor must submit at least 25 endorsement signatures from eligible electors
  • Prescribed nomination filing fee of $200 for Mayor and $100 for all other offices
         - The filing fee is payable by cash, certified cheque, money order, or debit
  • Proof of qualifying address within the Township of King or the applicable school board jurisdiction.

Nomination forms must be filed with the Township Clerk or designate before a candidate may accept contributions or incur campaign expenses. The deadline to withdraw a nomination is Friday, August 21, 2026, prior to 2:00 p.m.

Nominations Filed with Other Municipalities

In the event there are an insufficient number of certified candidates to fill all available positions, nominations will be reopened for vacant positions only on Wednesday, August 26, 2026, between 9 a.m. and 2 p.m., and may be filed in accordance with the nomination procedures.
