The report focuses on planning for tomorrow while building today

Township of King, Ont. (June 22, 2026)—The 2023/2026 Community Report: Building Our Community, presented to Council at the June 15 meeting, provides a comprehensive overview of King Township’s achievements over the past four years. The report marks a Council term defined by delivering modern, resident-centered services rooted in fiscal responsibility, transparency and accountability, while supporting economic vitality and community safety.

Key achievements outlined in the report reflect operational excellence, alongside strong investments in sustainability while enhanced community experiences and effective municipal advocacy reinforces the Township’s commitment to making life better in King by meeting residents’ needs and advancing shared priorities.

Highlights by the seven key priority areas include:

Awards, Achievements and Milestones: Recognized across Ontario and beyond for leadership in innovation, governance, and sustainability. Accolades include five consecutive GFOA budget presentation awards, the MISA Excellence in Municipal Systems Awards (2025), the National Governor General’s Medal in Architecture (2024) and the Geotab Innovation Award (2026). These achievements reinforce a strong reputation for delivering high-quality services and measurable results.

Greening and Environmental Sustainability: Driving climate action through green initiatives, emission reductions, and forward-thinking infrastructure. This includes the launch of the Community Climate Change Action Plan, decreasing Green House Gas emissions by 58,585.64 kilograms of carbon dioxide emissions (kg COe), diverting 370,865lbs of waste through the textile diversion program, recycling 40,210lbs of e-waste, diverting 5,908lbs of batteries from landfills, and the development (and official opening) of Zancor Centre, the first combined aquatics and ice-sports facility in Canada to achieve Zero Carbon Building Design Certification.

Fiscal Responsibility, Accountability and Transparency: Delivering clear reporting and a service-focused approach to financial management and decision-making. This includes the launch of the Township-wide comprehensive Service Inventory in 2023, introducing a service-based budgeting model in 2024 and access to strategic and operational public performance dashboards.

Economic Vitality and Community Safety: Supporting local growth while strengthening protection, awareness, and public well-being. This includes welcoming 45 new businesses, holding nine economic development events, investing approximately $150,000 in local business improvements through the Community Improvement Plan, 31,000 attendees at King Township led events, over 19,000 residents reached through safety education, 70,000 fire volunteer hours (2026) and 4,756 emergencies responded to.

Planning Tomorrow, Building Today: Shaping future growth through strategic policies, capital investments, and modernized processes. This includes advancing nine policy planning projects including making progress on the Official Plan Review, updating multiple Master Plans (Waste/Wastewater, Parks and Trails, Facilities, Transportation) and hosting over 32  Open Houses for community engagement, securing $38 million in funding from other levels of government, and 17 Capital projects and programs completed with nine additional on track to be complete by the end of 2026.

Community Experience: Creating meaningful connections through programs, events, and enhanced access to services. This includes over 300,000 Zancor Centre visitors since its opening in 2025, 213,590 community interactions with Service King and launching integrated digital tools like King Township’s virtual assistant, Kingsley, providing 24/7 online support. More than 47,000 residents have been engaged through programming and events at the King Heritage & Cultural Centre, alongside the delivery of over 3,400 recreation programs. The Township has also grown its corporate social media following from 4,733 to 13,000, supported by 7,687 posts that generated over nine million impressions and more than 1.5-million reel views.

Municipal Advocacy: Advancing key priorities through strong leadership and engagement at regional and provincial levels. This includes one legislative and two policy initiatives successfully led by the Township including providing recommendations for Bill 199: Protecting Ontario’s Streets and Communities Act, 2026. Additionally, staff supported 1,579 requests from the Mayor and Council and engaged with 182 partners to promote King Township’s interests.
