Steve is serving his fourth term as Mayor of the Township of King, the largest municipality by area in York Region. Within King's boundaries are the villages of Nobleton, King City, Schomberg, Kettleby, Pottageville, Laskay, Ansnorveldt, Snowball, Lloydtown and Strange.

Steve began serving on the Township of King Council in 2000, including two three-year terms as a Councillor for Ward 1 from 2000 to 2003 and from 2003 to 2006. He has served as King’s Mayor since 2010, and is King's sole regional representative on York Region Council.

Steve strongly believes in giving back to the community. He is: on the Ontario Heritage Trust;  Chair of York Region Administration and Finance Committee; Vice-chair for YorkNet; Vice-chair of the York Regional Police Services Board; Vice-chair of Infrastructure with Federation of Canadian Municipalities (FCM); Chair of the Small Urban Greater Toronto and Hamilton Area (GTHA) Mayors Caucus; a Housing York board member; a board member of York Health; a Toronto and Region Conservation Authority (TRCA) Executive board member; a King Township Library Board member; and a Holland Marsh Drainage System Joint Municipal Services Board (HMDSJMSB) board member. Steve also holds honourary positions, such as Honourary Governor of the Royal Agricultural Winter Fair; Honourary Chair of the King Township Food Bank; and Honourary Chair of Arts Society King.

Steve’s past service includes: Chairman, Communities in Bloom for King Township (2009 National Communities in Bloom winners); Treasurer, Parks and Recreation Ontario; Director, Association of Ontario Sport and Recreation Administrators; KingFest Music Festival; King City Parks Advisory Committee of Council; King City Trails Committee; and a committee member of King City Arena. Steve also coached soccer with the King United Soccer Club and hockey with the Schomberg Minor Hockey Association.

Steve worked for more than 35 years in the municipal sector, retiring as a Manager of the Project Management Office (PMO). He holds an International Project Management Professional (PMP), Certified Municipal Officer (CMO), Scrum Master Certified (SMC) and a Diploma in Municipal Management (Dipl.M.M.) designations.

Steve and his wife Barbara have five children: Stephanie, Ashley, Emma, David and Joseph.
