The Lifesaving Society designates the third week in July as National Drowning Prevention Week (NDPW) to focus community and media attention on the drowning problem and drowning prevention. This year, the theme is Prepare to be Water Smart. We'll be sharing stats and messaging about topics like planning ahead, building skills, and making smart choices around water to save lives.
King Township is offering FREE aquatics events at the Zancor Centre during NDPW to emphasize the importance of developing strong swimming skills, including:
Family Swim to Survive Event
Thursday, July 23 | 5:45–6:45 p.m.
Learn the three essential survival skills: roll into deep water, tread water for one minute and swim 50 metres. Pre-registration required.
Public Swim & Lifejacket Fitting
Saturday, July 25 | 12–2 p.m.
Enjoy a free swim and get expert tips from King lifeguards on choosing the right lifejacket or PFD and making sure it's safe and ready to use.
Water Smart® Colouring Contest
Help Buddy the Lifeguard Dog prepare for a safe day at the beach! Pick up a colouring sheet at Zancor Centre or the King City Library and submit your entry by July 25 for a chance to win a King Township swag bag. Winning entries in select age categories will advance to the provincial contest.
