The Township of King's Community Service Department offers a number of drop-in programs to keep you active and engaged.
Drop-in Program Registration
Drop-in recreational programming is available daily, including aquafit, skating, shinny hockey, sports and access to fitness equipment and classes.
Pre-registration for select drop-in recreational programming—including aquafit, sports, and fitness classes—at all King Township recreation facilities will be required effective Monday, January 27.
Drop-in skating and shinny hockey will not require pre-registration.
Online registration will open Residents: 72 hours (3 days) before the program start time Non-Residents: 48 hours (2 days) before the program start time and is available at townshipofking.perfectmind.com.
Pre-registration in a drop-in program ensures your spot is saved and you won’t be turned away at the door if the program is at capacity.

A 15-minute grace period is provided from the scheduled start time of any drop-in program.
If a participant arrives more than 15 minutes late, their spot may be forfeited, and no refund or credit will be issued.
NO COACHING OR INSTRUCTION PERMITTED
Coaching, lessons, or organized instruction are not permitted on the turf, gym, sports courts, ice pads or pool during drop-in or public use programs. Exception: Drop-In Figure Skating only.

Public Skating & Shinny Hockey (Indoors)
55+ Skate – These skates are open to older adults to enjoy a leisure skate while getting some exercise.
- Helmets are strongly recommended.
- Hockey sticks & pucks are not permitted.
Adult (18+) Shinny - Adult Shinny is open to all adults aged 18+ who wish to participate in a game of pick up hockey. Teams will be decided upon arrival, goalies play for free.
- All players must wear CSA-approved helmets and hockey gloves; The Ontario Recreation Facilities Association and the Township of King strongly recommends full equipment to be worn.
Youth Shinny (9-12 & 13-17) - These shinnies are open to youth who wish to improve their hockey skills and get some extra ice time. Pick-up games are planned by those in attendance and goalies play for free.
- All players must wear CSA-approved helmets and hockey gloves; The Ontario Recreation Facilities Association and the Township of King strongly recommends full equipment to be worn.
Family Stick & Puck - These skating sessions are available for families to practice hockey skills, including basic stick handling, shooting, and skating.
- No shinny games are permitted during this program.
- Each child aged 12 or younger must be accompanied on the ice by an adult aged 16+
- Each group may include up to 2 adults, with a maximum of 5 participants.
- All children are required to wear helmets and hockey gloves. The Ontario Recreation Facilities Association and the Township of King strongly recommends full equipment to be worn by all participants.
Figure Skating Drop-In - This skate time is for experienced skaters, with Skate Canada Starskate level or higher, to help individuals practice jumps, spins, and the fundamentals of figure skating. Skate Canada rules apply. Coaches are free.
Parent & Tot Skate - These skates are open to families with young children, adults and seniors who wish to enjoy an open leisure skate (children aged 6 & under).
- All children must be accompanied on the ice by an adult, parent or guardian.
- Helmets are highly recommended, especially for new skaters and children
- Skating aids are permitted on the ice.
- No hockey or figure skating permitted.
Public Skate – Enjoy fun, recreational ice time open to all ages and skill levels.
- Children under the age of 7 must be accompanied by an adult aged 16+.
- Helmets are highly recommended, especially for new skaters and children
- For the safety and enjoyment of all participants, no hockey or other equipment is permitted on the ice. Skating aids are permitted on the ice (in designated areas).
- Wheelchairs are welcome at all recreational skates.
- All participants must be wearing skates while on the ice.
- Figure skating manoeuvres such as twirls, jumps, and spins are also not allowed.
- Skate Patrol staff provide on-ice supervision during all public skates.

Recreational Drop-In Programs
55+ Drop-In Basketball - For participants 55+ only, this program is open to all skill levels. No registration is required, must pay at front desk prior to entering the gym.
Art Club - Are you feeling artsy? Join the fun at the Kids' Create Drop-In Art Club every Saturday Morning at the KHCC! Participants may drop-in anytime during the scheduled time frame for the child's age group and enjoy new activities each week. Please note that adults must stay on site with their child(ren) but may view the museum galleries (free admission with a child attending).
Badminton - Play as singles or doubles, participants are required to bring their own racquets and birdies.
Basketball - Looking to shoot some hoops on your own or maybe start a pick-up game? Then you need to check out our drop in basketball program. This program is open to all skill levels. No registration is required.
Gym Playgroup - Join us for a fun and active program for participants 1 - 5. Kids climb, jump, ride and play in our new gymnasium equipped with all new sports equipment and toys. Indoor shoes are required.
Pickleball - Pickleball is an easy to lean paddle sport which can be played by anyone, regardless of age or athletic ability. Grab a partner for a quick match or play as doubles. This program is open to all skill levels. Indoor shoes are required. Players need to bring their own paddle.
Playgroup - Through stories, songs, crafts and active play, participants will develop their emerging social, cognitive, gross and fine motor skills.
Volleyball - Taking place at the New Municipal Centre. 2 Volleyball courts will be set up. Come out and enjoy an evening of volleyball. This program is open to all skill levels. No registration is required.
Walk & Talk - Need a warm place to get some steps in this winter? Come walk and talk around the gymnasium at the King Township Municipal Centre. All ages welcome, indoor shoes needed and no strollers in the gym. Stroller parking is available in the hallway.

Aquatic Drop-In Programs
The Zancor Centre, opening in January 2025, features the Aqua Tech Solutions Aquatic Centre with a six-lane lap pool and leisure pool.
Registered and drop-in aquatic programming will be offered starting early winter.
Aquafit is an in-water fitness class designed to strengthen your muscles and improve your cardiovascular fitness.
Working out in water adds resistance to your muscles without the impact land activities can have on your joints.
It is also a great cross-training opportunity for those looking for something new.
Aqua Leisure
Aqua Leisure offers dedicated pool time for individuals to engage in aqua fitness exercises independently, at their own pace and preferred intensity.
Please note that this is a self-guided session—no instructor will be present to lead the class.
During this swim, all ages are welcome. Pools are set up to maximize recreational activities in a safe environment.
Swim fins are not permitted during this swim unless there is a designated lane for swimming lengths.

Open to any adult or youth (minimum 10 years of age) interested in swimming lengths for fitness. Participants ages 10-13 must be accompanied by a parent in the water).
The pool is divided into slow, medium, and fast lanes and participants are asked to swim in a counterclockwise loop.

Admission Guidelines & Standards
An admission policy and colour-coded wristband system is in effect at the Aquatic Centre for children ages 13 and under. This policy and system is in place to maintain the safety of everyone and help staff quickly assess participant supervision requirements and swimming ability.
Children Five (5) Years of Age and Under - Orange Wristband:
- Children who are five (5) years of age and under may not be admitted to the aquatic centre unless they are accompanied by a parent or caregiver that is at least sixteen (14) years of age, who is responsible for their direct supervision, with a maximum of two (2) children for each parent or caregiver (2:1).
Children Six (6) to Nine (9) Years of Age (Weak/Non-Swimmers) - Yellow Wristband:
- Children who are six (6) to nine (9) years of age and unable to pass the facility swim test must be accompanied in the water by a parent or caregiver who is at least fourteen (14) years of age and responsible for their direct supervision, with a maximum of four (4) children for each parent or caregiver (4:1).
- For non-swimmers (those unable to pass the facility swim test) between six (6) and nine (9) years of age the ratio of non-swimmers to parent or caregiver may be increased to a maximum of six (6) bathers to one parent or caregiver (6:1) if lifejackets are worn by all non-swimmers in their charge.
Children Six (6) to Nine (9) Years of Age - Red Wristband:
- Children who are six (6) to nine (9) years of age and pass the facility swim test must be accompanied by a parent or caregiver that is at least (14) years of age.
- The parent/caregiver is not required to accompany the child(ren) in the water, however, they must maintain visual contact with the child(ren) and remain within the pool enclosure at all times.
Parent/caregivers are responsible for the children in their care while in this facility and must directly supervise the children at all times.
Participants Ten (10) to Thirteen (13) Years of Age - Blue Wristband:
- Participants who are ten (10) to thirteen (13) years of age are not required to be accompanied by a parent or caregiver and are not required to complete the facility swim test unless they wish to swim in deep water.
- It is strongly encouraged that all participants swim with a buddy.
- This does not apply to Lane Swims; please see the Lane Swim Description for the admission policy.
THOSE WITH SEIZURE DISORDERS OR OTHER SERIOUS MEDICAL CONDITIONS SHOULD BE ACCOMPANIED BY AN INDIVIDUAL KNOWLEDGEABLE OF THEIR CONDITION AND RESPONSIBLE FOR THEIR DIRECT SUPERVISION.
Facility Swim Test - Green Wristband:
- All participants thirteen (13) years of age and younger wishing to swim in deep water must pass a facility swim test.
- The facility swim test and wristbands are administered by aquatic staff only and the purpose of the swim test is to evaluate skill, comp.
- Aquatic staff may request any individual, regardless of age, to complete the facility swim test to ensure everyone's safety in the water at all times.
The facility swim test consists of:
- Swimming four (4) widths of the pool without stopping.
- Treading water for one (1) minute.
- Children who are five (5) years of age and under may not be admitted to the aquatic centre unless they are accompanied by a parent or caregiver that is at least sixteen (14) years of age, who is responsible for their direct supervision, with a maximum of two (2) children for each parent or caregiver (2:1).

Outdoor Rink
The picnic shelter at Cold Creek Conservation Area has been transformed into a seasonal outdoor skating rink.
Free, unsupervised skating (max 25 skaters at one time) is available daily from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.; weather permitting.
