Applications for the 2026/27 term are open until October 9
Township of King, Ont. (August 14, 2026) —King Township is inviting youth between the ages of 14 and 18 to help shape local decisions through the Mayor's Youth Action Team (MYAT). Applications are now open for the 2026/27 term of this volunteer advisory group, which provides students with opportunities to engage with municipal government and share their perspectives on issues that matter to young people.
Since 2015, MYAT has empowered youth across King to champion important issues and contribute to community initiatives. Open to secondary school students in Grades 9 to 12, members work together on projects, events and recommendations that support and strengthen opportunities for youth in King Township.
As a member, you’ll have an opportunity to:
- Develop leadership, communication and teamwork skills
- Build your resume and earn volunteer hours
- Connect with like-minded youth and community leaders
- Help plan and support initiatives such as the Youth Opportunity Fair, National Youth Week, the Mayor’s Celebration of Youth Arts (and more!)
- Make your voice heard and help make life better in King
MYAT’s objectives:
- To act as an advisory body to the Mayor and Council on matters which have an impact on youth in King
- To identify and bring forward issues which will have an impact on King youth
- To foster a positive image of youth in our community by participating actively in community events and activities
- To promote positive meaningful activities for youth in partnership with the community
- To act as an advocate for youth issues
- To encourage youth to become more familiar with the workings of local government through education, involvement and participation
MYAT meets once a month with the meeting schedule determined based on members’ feedback and availability. Members will receive volunteer hours for all meetings and events.
