Submit a nomination for the 2026 King Township Heritage Award by September 4

Township of King, Ont. (Monday, June 29, 2026) — Celebrate and help preserve King Township’s rich heritage by highlighting a historic property—whether it’s an historic building, structure, streetscape, district or cultural landscape that reflects King’s architectural character, history or cultural legacy. Nominations for the prestigious 2026 King Township Heritage Award are now open and can be submitted online until Friday, Sept. 4 at king.ca/heritage.

Presented annually by the King Township Heritage Advisory Committee, the award recognizes excellence in the preservation, maintenance, restoration or enhancement of King Township’s cultural heritage resources. Property nominations must be selected from the Township’s official Municipal Heritage Register (StoryMap) which can be viewed at king.ca/heritage.

Nominations will be reviewed and selected by the Committee using established criteria with a focus on cultural heritage value, creativity in its conservation and the evident commitment from current owners to maintaining or improving the site.

The winning property will be honoured at a Council meeting later this year, where they will receive an artistic replica of their property, created by a local artist. A copy of the artwork will also be displayed in one of the meeting rooms at the King Township Municipal Centre.

2025 King Township Heritage Award Winner

The recipient of the 2025 King Township Heritage Award was The Schomberg Pub & Patio, located at 226 Main Street. Built circa 1880, the property—historically known as the Dr. Dillane House—is recognized for its strong connection to the history of the village of Schomberg and its continued contribution to the Township’s cultural heritage. The property is celebrated for its distinctive and well-maintained Victorian-era architecture, including its decorative dichromatic brickwork, prominent front verandah and wooden detailing, and projecting bays, standing as a familiar and enduring feature of Schomberg’s historic village core.
