King Township remains in a Significant Weather Event, first declared on Jan. 16. Township crews have been clearing snow from roads and sidewalks.

On Jan. 19, crews were out clearing snow from sidewalks in King City. The sidewalks in most other areas are done. Sidewalk clearing is expected to continue into Jan. 20.

Crews have asked residents to be patient, explaining that it’s slow-going due to the heavy, wet snow, making it hard for the machines to push.

Snow plowed from nearby Regional roads onto the sidewalks is also making the snow removal efforts more difficult. Crews are using a snow blower to move the heavy, wet snow with limited snow storage, a process that is slower than typical plowing.

Significant Weather Event

In extreme weather conditions, the Township may declare a Significant Weather Event under Ontario Regulation 239/02. This declaration takes place when a weather hazard has the potential to pose a significant danger to users of King’s roadways. Weather hazards can include significant snowfall, strong winds, blowing snow and reduced visibility.

Standard timelines are suspended to allow the municipality to reach its regular maintenance standards to help people travel safely across King.
