Large/oversized items will require a bulk item tag and a scheduled collection effective January 1, 2026

Township of King, Ont. (December 2, 2025) Beginning January 2026, large item collection in King Township will follow a scheduled, call-in process, similar to the system already in place for appliances and large metal items. Due to the province-wide mandate, the Township will no longer collect recycling effective December 31, 2025. This has resulted in changes to how waste is collected.

Instead of recycling and organics being co-collected on the same collection vehicle, residents will see co-collection of organics and garbage (separated into separate compartments on the same truck). To improve operational efficiencies, large item collection will now be handled by a dedicated collection vehicle, streamlining pick-ups for residents.

Bulk item tags are required for furniture, mattresses, box springs, plastic lawn furniture, toilets, carpeting, and more. These items are to be placed at curbside for pick-up on your regular garbage collection day.

How it works

  • Residents must call GFL (Green for Life Environmental) at 1-866-421-5625 to schedule a pick-up.
  • A maximum of five (5) items will be collected per pick-up.
  • Each item requires a bulk item tag.
  • Residents’ large items will be picked up on their regular garbage collection day.
  • Items must be placed at the curb by 7:00 a.m. on collection day.

Bulk item tags cost $15 each and may be purchased online or in-person at the Trisan Centre, Zancor Centre, and the King Township Municipal Centre.

Start date and scheduling

  • Residents can start calling GFL during the week of December 29, 2025, to book their pick-ups for the following week.
  • Scheduled large item collection will officially begin the week of January 5, 2026.
  • Residents may call GFL in advance to schedule a large item pick-up. However, to ensure bulk items are collected on your regular garbage day, requests must be received no later than 11:00 a.m. on Monday of your garbage week. Requests received after this time cannot be guaranteed for collection that week and will otherwise be scheduled for your next regular garbage collection day.

Large metal items—appliances, barbecues, bed frames, furnaces, hot water heaters, metal bathtubs, storage sheds and bicycles—continue to be collected by GFL. A large appliance tag is required. After receiving your tag, call GFL at 1-866-421-5625 to schedule a curbside pick-up.
