A new hub for wellness, connection and active living for ages 55+
On Wednesday, Oct. 15, King Township officially opened the doors to another dedicated space for seniors, built with heart, purpose, and community spirit: the new Nobleton Senior Program Room.
Located in the Dr. William Laceby Nobleton Community Centre & Arena at 15 Old King Road in Nobleton, the space was revitalized with new furniture and program equipment thanks to $72, 000 in funding from the Ontario Seniors Active Living Centre (SALC) program. The space is beautified with a mural created by local artist, Angela Del Borrello.
MPP King-Vaughan, Stephen Lecce—who has been a strong advocate for seniors in King-Township—was in attendance to help cut the ceremonial ribbon. The provincial government's continued annual investment of $55,000 will support delivery of programming for ages 55 and older, including fitness, art and cooking workshops, and social events for seniors.
The day's celebration featured card and board games, table tennis, indoor bocce, carpet bowling and tai chi ball demonstrations, as well as a Bone Fitness exercise class and information booths from community organizations.
This vision was brought to life through the tireless work of King Township staff together with senior volunteers, including Nobleton Seniors Board Chair, Joanne Bailey.
The Nobleton Senior Program Room represents a commitment to aging with dignity and independence, a hub for wellness, learning and social connection, and a place where older adults can thrive, not just age. It is a step in the Township’s journey towards developing an Age-Friendly Action Plan and part of a broader commitment to becoming an Age-Friendly Community, where residents have access to programs, facilities and infrastructure so they can grow older at home.
