Wednesday, Oct. 1 marks National Seniors Day in Canada, a reminder to give back and acknowledge the seniors that make a difference in your life, whether they are parents, neighbours or friends.

King Township is celebrating and recognizing the contributions our older population makes to our families, communities and society with a selection of free activities and events. Whether you’re looking to keep active, enjoy the thriving local social scene or learn how technology can best serve you as you age, King’s National Seniors Day festivities are conveniently located throughout all three villages. On Wednesday, Oct. 1, head to your local community centre to attend one (or more) of:

Mobility Matters: reach your potential at King City Seniors Centre from 10 to 11 a.m. or 11 a.m. to noon.

King Age-Friendly Community Action Plan

The accessible and welcoming programs running on National Seniors Day reflect King’s commitment to creating an age-friendly community. An age-friendly community provides services, policies and structures to fit the needs of this rapidly growing population, focusing on their ability to maintain their independence and participate in the community. Becoming an age-friendly community has been identified as one of the key results in the 2023-2026 King Township Corporate Strategic Plan.

King Township community members of all ages are invited to join our AFC steering committee members and consultants at the following Open Houses for an in-depth discussion about how King can become an age-friendly community. The feedback will be used to help create a 5-year King Age-Friendly Community Action Plan. Light snacks and beverages will be provided while quantities last.
