Exceptions such as cardboard may be placed beside the blue box provided it's flattened, bundled and tied with twine or string (no tape). Bundles must not exceed 20" x 24" x 12". Please do not place any recycling products in plastic bags.

Please ensure that your garbage and blue boxes are visible to the operator (not blocked by parked cars) or on top of snow banks.

Visit the Region of York's website to learn more about the new items you can now add to your blue box.

Important - Did you know that no sorting is required? All recyclables can now be combined into one blue box.

Transitioning the blue box collection program

Changes to the Blue Box Program – Starting Jan. 1, 2026

Beginning Jan. 1, 2026, the Township of King will transition its blue box recycling program to an organization called Circular Materials. This change will streamline the recycling of products and packaging throughout Ontario, representing all producers involved. Residents can continue to recycle as they always have, with the exception that collection will move from weekly to once every two weeks to align with all other municipalities in Ontario.

Each household will receive one large, 240 litre wheeled tote in the fall of 2025. Residents can place overflow recyclables beside this tote in recycling bags for the first few months after the transition and can order an additional tote at their expense. Damaged totes will be replaced free of cost to residents. Materials placed in old blue bins will not be collected.

Any future modifications to the blue box program will be determined by Circular Materials and will be communicated to the public in a timely manner.

In accordance with the provincial Blue Box Regulation, Ontario's Blue Box Program is moving to a new Extended Producer Responsibility (EPR) model. Under this framework, producers of blue box materials will take on the responsibility for collecting, processing and recycling these items. This shift means that companies that manufacture, market and package products will be fully accountable for managing and funding the entire lifecycle of their materials.
