Residents who previously requested a smaller 240‑litre recycling cart will soon receive follow‑up communication as part of the coordinated recycling transition plan for the northern six municipalities (N6) in York Region.
Circular Materials has announced the next steps in the exchange process, following several weeks of resident use of the new standard 360‑litre carts.
Beginning January 30 Circular Materials will email all residents who submitted an exchange request to confirm whether they still wish to proceed. This check‑in is important, as both Circular Materials and GFL have received calls from residents who changed their minds after trying the larger cart over multiple bi‑weekly collection cycles. Please keep in mind that recycling collection has moved from a weekly to a bi-weekly schedule, the list of accepted materials expanded, all items must fit inside the cart with the lid closed, and only one cart exchange will be permitted per address.
Residents will have until February 13 to confirm their choice. Reminder emails will be sent during the two‑week confirmation window. Requests received after the deadline — including new requests for a smaller cart — will be processed later.
Once confirmation is received, Circular Materials will follow up with instructions and timing for the exchange. Cart swaps will begin the first week of March, rolling out across all N6 communities. While most exchanges are expected to take place early in the month, an extended six week window allows for follow‑up in cases where carts were not placed correctly at the curb or were otherwise missed.
Updates will be posted online at circularmaterials.ca/king.
