Township of King, Ont.The Township of King is actively seeking applications from community-minded individuals to serve on the Township’s boards and committees for the 2022 to 2026 term of Council.

Opportunities to volunteer include the Accessibility Advisory Committee; the Committee of Adjustment; the Heritage Advisory Committee; the King Township Public Library Board; and the Holland Marsh Drainage System Joint Municipal Service Board. 

Here is a brief description of each committee and board.

  • Accessibility Advisory Committee (AAC)

The purpose of Accessibility Advisory Committee (AAC) is to advise and assist Council in improving opportunities for persons with disabilities by promoting the implementation of the Ontarians with Disabilities Act, 2001 (ODA) and the Accessibility for Ontarians with Disabilities Act, 2005 (AODA) in the Township of King. The Accessibility Advisory Committee is to act as an advisory committee to Council to advise on matters relating to access to Township programs and services for citizens of all abilities, including persons with disabilities.

  • Committee of Adjustment (COA)

The Committee of Adjustment is an independent body appointed by Council, under authority granted by the Province of Ontario, to grant relief from the provisions of the Township’s Zoning By-law. The Committee of Adjustment is also empowered to grant consent for the severance of land. The committee is appointed to hear and adjudicate on applications in accordance with the Planning Act. The major criteria used to evaluate applications are contained within Section 45(1) of the Planning Act and are commonly referred to as the "four tests" of the Planning Act.

  • Heritage Advisory Committee (HAC)

The mandate of the Heritage Advisory Committee (HAC) is to advise and assist Council on heritage matters in the Township (pursuant to the Ontario Heritage Act) as well as to serve as a resource for the community on heritage-related matters relating to Part IV (the conservation of Properties of Cultural Interest) and Part V (heritage conservation districts) of the Ontario Heritage Act, and other such matters as the Council may specify by bylaw. In addition, the mandate will include acting as a resource for citizens in matters pertaining to conservation, restoration, and renovation of heritage properties. It will also work to raise awareness of the Township’s heritage in the community.

  • King Township Public Library Board

The King Township Public Library Board directs King’s library service with responsible policies and decisions so that all services result in providing welcoming, safe and accessible spaces for the sharing and enjoyment of knowledge. The Library Board’s objective is to connect people to educational, cultural and contemporary recreational resources and their communities.

  • Holland Marsh Drainage System Joint Municipal Service Board (HMDSJMSB)

The Holland Marsh Drainage System Joint Municipal Service Board is a joint partnership with the Township of King and the Town of Bradford West Gwillimbury. Its mission is to maintain and manage the Holland Marsh drainage system, to plan any future development for the Holland Marsh and tackle any possible environmental issues. Eligibility for this board requires members to be residents of King who are carrying on farming practices within the Holland Marsh.

To apply for a Township committee or board, submit an application that demonstrates your commitment to the community and includes any knowledge related to the desired committee or board.

Completed applications must be submitted by 4:30 p.m. on Wednesday, Dec. 14, 2022. Visit king.ca/committees to submit your application online or to learn more about the recruitment process.

Term of Appointments will be for four years and align with the term of Council. Applicants must meet eligibility criteria as defined within the Recruitment and Appointment Policy.
