A Commissioner of Oath is an individual authorized by law to witness signatures for certain documents such as affidavits*, oaths, pension documents from other countries and statutory declarations.
Township hours of service: 8:30 am - 4:30 pm Monday to Friday (excluding Statutory Holidays).
Please call to book an appointment to ensure that a Commissioner is available to assist you when you attend the office.
2024 Fees:
$20.00 (plus HST) for King Township residents and businesses
$26.00 (plus HST) for Non-Township residents and businesses
Booking an Appointment:
Contact the Township at 905-833-5321 to be connected to the next available Commissioner or e-mail us at clerks@king.ca. While it is not mandatory to book an appointment, it is strongly recommended so that we can ensure someone is available to assist you. We cannot guarantee availability of a commissioner without an appointment booked in advance.
ID & Documents: The individual taking the oath and signing the document must present one original piece of government issued photo identification (Ie. a valid driver's licence or valid passport which includes a current address). Please complete the document(s) to be commissioned beforehand, but do not sign the document in advance - the Commissioner must witness your signature.
Note: The Township does not provide Notary Public services and cannot certify true copies of documents. Our Commissioners will not sign the following:
- Wills *
- Living Wills
- Power of Attorney
- Divorce, Separation or Custody Documents
- Real Estate Documents *
- Estate Settlement Documents
- Documents related to finance (banking information, RRSP, etc.)
- Court, Legal and/or Civil Issues related documents
Please contact a Notary Public or lawyer who can notarize these documents.
* Affidavits or agreements (i.e. Probate, Bare Trust Agreement) regarding Wills and Real Estate require the services of a lawyer.
Contact the Clerks Division for an appointment at 905-833-5321 or clerks@king.ca. Please do not submit a payment form until you have scheduled an appointment with a Commissioner and verified that your document can be witnessed. Payment may also be made in person at your appointment time.
