Water and Wastewater Rates

2011 Township of King Water Financial Plan 0.Reg 453-07

The Township of King provides water services by way of four (4) distribution systems:  Ansnorveldt, King City, Nobleton and Schomberg.  The Township is required to purchase their water requirements from the Region of York, who in turn treats the water that is supplied to the municipality.  In addition, the Township currently provides wastewater services to the communities of Schomberg and King City.  It is anticipated that the community of Nobleton will be provided with wastewater services over the next few years.

The water and wastewater rates that are charged to the users consist of two elements.  The first component consists of a base system charge that is billed on a quarterly basis.  The intent of this charge is to ensure funds are recovered for the infrastructure assets used in the distribution and transmission of water & wastewater along with any debt financing repayments that may be incurred.  The second component being the variable charge (consumption charge) is calculated on the basis of per cubic meter of water consumed.  The variable fee is required to ensure annual operating costs for staff, distribution, maintenance and administration are properly funded.

Notice of Water & Wastewater Rate Increase

The Township of King has reviewed the user rates for the supply of municipal water and the collection of wastewater; it has deemed that the rates do not ensure the financial integrity of the system (Water and Wastewater Rate Study - February, 2011).  On February 14, 2011 Council adopted By-law 2011-18 which increases the municipal water and wastewater (sewer) rates effective January 1, 2011.  Furthermore, on January 30, 2012 Council amended By-law 2011-18 with By-law 2012-14 (Schedule A-1) .   Below are the new rates for 2012.

King City Wastwater (Sewer) Residents

Please be advised that several areas in King City are now operational and properties have been connected to the sanitary sewer system.  If this pertains to you there will be an increase in your water bill.  In exchange for using the sanitary sewer system, residents are required to pay for the operating costs with each water billing.  The costs that you paid earlier or that were added to your property taxes were for the capital portion of the sanitary sewers.
