Proxy Voting What is a proxy vote?
A proxy vote allows an eligible King voter who is on the Voters' List to appoint another eligible King voter, who is also on the Voters' List, to vote on their behalf, according to their wishes using a proxy appointment form.
A person can only act once as a proxy, except if he or she is the spouse, parent, child, grandparent or grandchild of the person making the proxy appointment.
How do I arrange for proxy voting?
1. If you are unable to vote in person for any reason, call us to receive a proxy appointment form by mail or pick one up at the Clerk's Department during regular business hours (Monday - Friday, 8:30 a.m. - 4:30 p.m.). NOTE: The Clerk will be available to certify proxies at the Advance Votes Locations on Oct. 11, 18 and 25, between 12:00 pm and 5:00 pm, for your convenience.
2. After you have completed your portion of the form, the person you appoint (who must also be entitled to vote in King and on the Voters' List) must present the form in person together with proof of identity to the Clerk's Department to be certified.
3. The person acting as your proxy will take the certified form to the voting location where you would normally vote on Voting Day (October 27) or at any of the advance voting locations together with their proof of identity and vote according to your wishes.
