Can I withdraw from the pre-authorized payment plan?

Yes. To withdraw, at any time, send a note to the Township of King, Finance Department stating your decision to cancel and your water account will revert to the regular installment billing system. You can also use the NEW ON-LINE FORM. Your request must be received at least fourteen (14) days prior to the next scheduled payment. Notice of less than fourteen days may not be accommodated.

How do I change my school support on my tax bill?

​Follow the link to complete the form to change school support and submit it to the Municipal Property Assessment Corporation at 45 Vogell Road, Suite 400, Richmond Hill ON   L4B 3P6. The form is also available on our website on the Forms page under the Finance Department. You may submit the form to the Township and we will forward it to MPAC, or you may submit it to MPAC directly. For more information, please contact MPAC.

How does the Water Pre-authorized Payment Plan work?

​The Pre-Authorized Water Payment Plan offers you the option of worry-free payments, even if you are away for an extended period of time. Postal strikes or vacations will no longer cause concern.  Interested in signing up?  Simply fill in the application,(Forms are not available now. Please check back later) available on this website, and return it along with a voided cheque, and we will do the rest.

I need an official receipt for property taxes paid last year for Canada Revenue Agency. Is there a charge?

​Original tax receipts and statement of accounts can be provided by the Finance Department.  If you require an official tax letter or replacment tax receipt, there is a fee, please refer to our Fees & Charges page where these details may be found under Finance Department - Schedule F of the current Fees and Charges By-Law.  Contact the Finance Department at 905-833-5321 for the details.

What if I miss a payment?
 ‎(1)

​If more than one payment is dishonored by your bank for any reason, your enrolment in the plan may be cancelled and your water account will revert to the regular payment method. Your water account will be subject to the standard penalty charges. A service fee will be applied to your account in response to the returned payment.

What if I sell my property?
 ‎(1)

​Simply notify the Finance Department in writing, as soon as possible, stating the closing date of the sale. We will ensure that deductions stop at the appropriate time. We do require at least fourteen (14) days to do so.

How long can I be in arrears before the Township does anything with my property?

If the taxes are in arrears for three (3) years the Township can begin the tax sale process.

How much will my quarterly payment be? Will it change?

​You will be notified of the amount of your quarterly water bill amount and due date on your regular quarterly billing. Will your quarterly payment change? Yes. Your quarterly billing is based on your water and sewer consumption.

What is the charge for a tax and/or water certificates and where do I send the request?

​To access information relating to these fees, please refer to our Fees & Charges page where these details may be found under Finance Department - Schedule F of the current Fees and Charges By-Law.  A water certificate is for only those properties on municipal water in King City, Nobleton, Schomberg and Ansnorveldt.  Request for tax/water certificates should be submitted in writing to Township of King, Finance Dept, 2075 King Rd, King City ON  L7B 1A1.  Please make the cheques payable to the Township of King.

What is the cost of garbage tags and where can I purchase them?

​To access information relating to these fees, please refer to our Fees & Charges page where these details may be found under Engineering and Public Works Department - Schedule D of the current Fees and Charges By-Law. The garbage tags must be purchased in increments of 5 and are available at the Township Offices and all three arenas, during regular business hours.  You can now also try our NEW ON-LINE PAYMENT OPTION.  On garbage collection day you can put out 2 bags of garbage plus 3 bags with tags on them.  For larger items, contact the Public Works Department at 905-833-5321.

What is the penalty for late tax payments, and when it is added on?

​The penalty charge for late payment of property taxes is 1¼ percent per month on the unpaid balance.  The penalty is added on the 1st day of each month.

What payment options are available for property taxes?
 ‎(1)

Payment Options are:

1.  Pre-Authorized Payment Plan - the Township offers 2 pre-authorized payment plans - a 10 month plan where payments are withdrawn on a monthly basis from January to October of each year and an Installment Plan where payments will be withdrawn on the due dates.  How to sign up.....

2.  Electronic Banking - payment can be made electronically.  You will have to go through your banks website and set up the Township of King as a payee.  In most cases you will look for King Taxes or Water.  If you move and relocate within the municipality, please be sure to update your banking information.  The tax account number is your roll number and you will need 15 digits.  (Sample 000xxxxxxxx0000) Water payments must now have 10 digits ( Sample xxxxxxxxxx). 

3.  Bank Payments - taxes can be paid at any chartered bank or financial institution, provided you have your payment stub.  Payments at the bank should be made on or before the due date. 

4.  Mail - when submitting a payment by mail write your roll number on your cheque.  Please remember the taxpayer assumes the responsibility for late arrival of your payment.

5.  Post Dated Cheques - are accepted.  Please write the roll number on the front of your cheque.

6.  In Person - your tax payment can be dropped off at the Municipal Offices between 8:30 a.m. and 4:30 p.m. Monday to Friday.

Credit Cards are not accepted for the payment of taxes.

When are the property tax bills mailed and when are they due?

​The Township sends out 2 tax bills per year with 2 installments on each bill.  The interim bill is sent out in January of each year with installments due in February and April, approximately the 25th day.  The final bill is sent out in June with the final two installments due in July and September, also approximately the 25th.

When are water bills issued?
 ‎(1)

​Water bills are sent out 4 times a year.  The meters are read and the end of March, June, September and December.  The water bills are mailed within 10 days after receiving the reads.  Penalty for a late water payment is 10% and it is calculated on the 1st day after the due date.  This penalty is added once per billing cycle.
